This last minute styled shoot has me reflecting on my creative process. So often, what we dream is not what we end up creating. I used to beat myself up over it! The problem was either I didn't have the technical knowledge or I would get overwhelmed/flustered by the idea and flop. However, I've learned that some of my best work comes from the mistakes I've made.
When you let go of your expectations of the creative process, you allow the magic in. You think on your feet, you're totally in the moment, you're acting on whatever creative instinct you have and you're creating. If you allow yourself enough self love, you can have this creative instinct. You can have the technical knowledge. But (for me anyways) You have to let them coexist. Blur that line. And truly be in that moment. Those mistakes (the accidental light flare, the underexposed image, the weird lighting) all become part of the process. And in a way, they were always going to be anyways.
